ALL
THAT GLITTERS
"Collins' alluring landscapes are composed of layers of paint, memory,
glitter and resin. They are meant to be a testament to our confusing and
turbulent times. As with many artists, her social conscience is foremost.
When creating her pictures, Collins has layered images digitally, sketching
on her computer. Exterior / interior landscapes, mainly local landscapes
from photos she takes are combined with x-rays and images of cells. Trees
often appear as solitary figures, silent witnesses to history. Glitter is
the commercial sparkle, the seducer of the consumer. Sealed with resin,
there is a permanent record of toxicity and alluring beauty. These paintings
are a seductive yet ironic commentary on today’s marketplace and economy."

"Forget Freddy Krueger, spiders or heights—what really scares Adria Collins is glitter. The cheap craft supply has the power to induce major mood swings for the Montreal painter. Combined with panic attack causing resin, the production of Collins’ newest work was a harrowing experience." Read
